Tooth Extractions in Brentwood, CA
At Platinum Smiles Family Dentistry, it is always our number one goal to help you maintain optimum dental health. Despite our very best efforts, however, sometimes it does become necessary for a dental extraction.
Occasionally your tooth may be broken beyond repair or have such a serious infection that there is no way to save it. We know that losing a tooth can be a traumatic experience for our patients, and that is why Dr. Huma Bayat makes both the tooth extraction experience and the tooth replacement therapy as comfortable and seamless as possible for you.
Teeth may also need to be extracted because your child’s baby teeth did not fall out properly or because it is necessary for orthodontics. It is also common for third molars (wisdom teeth) to cause dental crowding and require extraction to protect your other teeth.
Because we perform both simple and surgical extractions in our office, we eliminate the need to refer you to an oral surgeon for your procedure. Dr. Huma Bayat has performed numerous extractions quickly and painlessly right in the comfort of our Brentwood, CA dental office.
A simple extraction means that your tooth is fully erupted from your gums. In other words, Dr. Bayat will not need to make an additional incision to assist with the removal of your tooth. Generally, recovery time is quicker and easier for simple extractions. You will be completely numb for your procedure and we will give you very specific instructions to assist with healing.
Surgical extractions are for teeth that are not yet fully erupted from your gums or for teeth that have broken off at the gum line. Generally, surgical extractions require a longer healing time and may include stitches to assist with the healing of your gums. You will also be completely numb for your surgical extraction, so you should feel no pain. Dr. Bayat may recommend that you have conscious sedation if you are nervous or anxious about your procedure.
After-Care for Extractions
Once you have your extraction, Dr. Bayat will provide detailed after-care instructions about what to expect following your procedure and how to take the best care of yourself. She may prescribe medication to assist with healing, but only if it is necessary. Not every extraction requires a prescription.
You may be asked to avoid certain behaviors after an extraction like smoking or drinking through a straw. Following your after-care instructions will help to reduce your pain and healing time.
Feeling Anxious About Your Extraction?
We offer conscious sedation in our office to help patients feel more comfortable for certain dental procedures. We would be happy to discuss this with you at your evaluation.
